The Collegiate Education department aims to impart higher education of the best quality  to all eligible students of the State after they qualify at the higher secondary level. The Department conducts various undergraduate and post graduate courses in Government and government aided Colleges under the Department, imparts training to teachers and non teaching staff and provide modern infrastructural facilities in addition to starting new courses and colleges as required.For the economically backward students, the Department frames and implements various schemes of Scholarships apart from various  Central Sector Scholarships under the guidelines of  Government of India. The four reputed Music Academies in the State have been upgraded to the level of colleges  and Degree and PG courses are conducted in these institutions that are affiliated to the Universities of the State. RLV College of Music & Fine Arts is unique in that it is the art of its kind in Kerala which imparts training for music, fine arts, Kathakali and Mohiniattam, Sculpture and Modelling. The Department conducts M.Ed. courses at the College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram and Institute of Advanced Studies in Education  at Thrissur with the intention to train the required number of teachers in the Education sector. Apart from the B.Ed. courses and the in-service courses conducted in the three Teacher Education Colleges and the IASE, Thrissur,  the Physical Education College at Kozhikkode under the Department of Collegiate Education conducts similar courses in the Physical Education sector. The Department also provides various opportunities to  students and teachers to conduct research and to attend other career development programmes with the assistance of the University Grants Commission, RUSA and other such agencies.  Hostel and quarter facilities are also provided by the Department to students and teachers.  In short the Department oversees the spectrum of  activities to students who enter  the higher education sector ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
